The bathroom sink had been draining slowly for quite a while and I assumed that opening the drain would be a simple matter. Unfotunately it became apparent that the occlusion was not in an easily-accessable area - it is in the pipes behind the wall. Further, it appears to be somewhere past or nearby the ventilation shaft so when pushing a snake therein someyimed the snakes into the ventilstion shaft, sometimes toward the occlusion. It is perhaps of some note that the drain contained both fetid water and a fetid black greasy substance. Nonetheless, my attempts to unclog the drain made natters worse and the last time I checked, the drain was fully clogged. Since I have drained the water from the pipe, the material causing the blockage may be drying which may aid future attempts to remedy the occlusion. After working with the snake to open up the blockage for a long whole, I tried to open it up via chemical methods. These methods include: baking soda & vinegar, hot salt water, and laundry detergent with hot water. Perhaps of some signifcance is that the drained water resulting from these attempts (i.e. the solution that I left in the drain for a time in hopes it would help unclog it, which, failing that, was drained back to the under-sink area) was generally clear. 12:51 pm - JOURNAL: Unfotunately I have quite a headache at the moment and I hypothesize it is the result of eating too many sugars yesterday.
